Many people don't know that silver is actually diamagnetic, which means it is repelled by magnets. Monarch has overcome this issue by embedding a large rare earth magnet into the back of these 1/2 ounce silver rounds. Some silver buyers use magnets to test for purity. However, the test for fake silver with magnets is often performed incorrectly. If a silver coin sticks to a magnet, it is probably silver-plated steel or a similar material, but not pure silver. If a magnet moves a piece of silver, that doesn't mean it is impure; it just proves silver's diamagnetism.
